Yes, it is quite smoky (barbecue sauce may be a bit of an extreme analogy). It's a good, affordable everyday Pu Erh, and I expect with a couple years of aging, it'll mellow out into a very drinkable tea. It can be quite difficult to break off the first leaves from the cake.
