The highest grade of Lapsang Souchong is called Jun Mei or Beautiful Eyebrow (in English) because the processed tea leaf resembles an eyebrow. Jun Mei can be further categorized into Gold (Jin) and Silver (Yin) grade; we are carrying the Gold. What is special about Jun Mei Souchong is that unlike other Lapsang Souchong, it is processed using tender, full tea leaves and buds harvested in early spring before the Qing Ming festival.

This tea is also known as Zheng Shan Souchong. Zheng Shan means "Original Mountain" and only tea leaves picked from Wuyi (Tong Mu Guan) harvest area can be called as "Zheng Shan". These tea leaves have a special characteristics in that they have a subtle hint of a sweet fruit in China called "longan".

Other names:

Jun Mei Black Tea, Gold Jun Mei Lapsang Souchong

Taste:

The fragrance of Jin Jun Mei Lapsang Souchong are smoky (pine) as any good Lapsang should be, yet the taste has distinct fruity sweet notes underneath the smoky nature of the tea. As this tea ages, the smoky nature will slowly subside while the fruity sweetness of this tea becomes stronger.

Appearance:

Jin Jun Mei Souchong tea leaves are carefully rolled and when infused, they unfurl into young one-bud one-leaf tea leaves. Clear orange color infusion.

Origin:

Wu Yi Shan, Fujian Province, China

Harvest Period:

Spring 2015 (Ming Qian Cha)

Brewing Guide

1. Rinse tea cup and teapot with hot water.

2. Use about 3 grams of tea leaves (1-2 teaspoons) for every 150ml of water. Steep tea leaves in hot water at 95°c (203°F) for 1 minute for the first and second brewing.

3. Gradually increase steeping time and temperature for subsequent brewing.

* We suggest you can use purple clay or porcelain tea ware. If you like milk with your tea, add 10 ml to 15ml of sweetened/plain dairy milk and stir.

Not really a gongfu tea, though it works alright as such. I think it should primarily be brewed english style because the virtues of the tea is embodied in a very deep cup with shimmering flavors on the rim and after the gulp. "Chocolaty" more in the sense of South American Valrhona darks rather than Hersheys milk chocolate that is present in the more tippy brews of the southern chinese dark teas. It is processed as a lapsang, but it isnt a Lapsang flavor. I didnt get the traditional musky grape/longan flavors, and what smoke is there is very much integrated into the deep taste. Is it a good value? No. Only the people who truly want an elite black tea with lots of low notes should purchase this tea. ChineseTeaArt sells lots of very high quality black teas, like Sichuan Gong Fu Hong Cha, which sells for less than it probably should, and shoppers should try some of the other bargains.

Another outstanding black tea of which the flavor was wafting through the room when I had it this morning the first time for breakfast. Its well deserved price will not make it an every day affair which is good. Otherwise one might loose the taste.

The most forgettable black tea i have ever had, in fact I hope to get through this review without forgetting what im doing here, stares at iPad blankly " what am I doing here?" I hope this isnt the same as Jin jun mei as i have always wanted to try that and will be mightily sad if its just this lol. To my tongue it tastes like someone has made a mixture of 60% Yunnan gold to 40% sweet black like sichaun Gong Fu or perhaps a bai Lin gong Fu.

My first try of this I didnt like it so much, because I was expecting more a lot of the smokiness of a typical lapsang souchong. This doesnt have much of that at all. After emptying my cup, so to speak, the next few times I tried this, its more than grown on me. Its almost like drinking dark chocolate. Its quite amazing, good for 4+ steeps, each with a different but excellent variation on its flavors. A very fine black tea.

Less added smoke and more intrinsic. I brewed english style for 4 minutes and the result was superb. A second steep was still worth it. This is a favorite now.
