Being introduced in 1996, Yi Xing Hong Cha is a fairly new black tea that originates from Zhu Hai, a small village located in Yixing County, in the southern part of Jiang Su province in East China. Zhu Hai village is renowned for its beautiful scenery and bamboo trees that grow in abundant quantities (its name actually means "Bamboo Ocean"). Although Jiang Su province has been a traditional black tea producing province for many years, none of its productions ever become well-known until Yi Xing Hong Cha. In year 2001, Yi Xing Hong Cha won the first prize for the Black tea category in the Fourth China Tea Competition. Some tea connoisseurs even go as far as saying this is the best black tea in the world. This is, of course a matter of opinion but this is a tea we believe you should try if you enjoy black teas.

Other names:

Yi Xing Black Tea, Zhu Hai Golden Tea

Yi Xing Hong Cha tea is smooth and mellow, with delicious chocolaty aroma and rich malty flavors. This is an excellent black tea on its own, but also blends well with sweetened milk for added flavor and complexity.

Yi Xing Hong Cha is made of curled, rolled up tea buds. The appearance is similar to Dong Ting Bi Luo Chun but with golden-black tea leaves.

Yi Xing, Jiang Su Province, China

Harvest Period:

Spring 2015

Brewing Guide

1. Rinse tea cup and teapot with hot water.

2. Use about 3 grams of tea leaves (1-2 teaspoons) for every 150ml of water. Steep tea leaves in hot water at 95°c (203°F) for 1 minute for the first and second brewing.

3. Gradually increase steeping time and temperature for subsequent brewing.

* We suggest you can use purple clay or porcelain tea ware. If you like milk with your tea, add 10 ml to 15ml of sweetened/plain dairy milk and stir.

Just fresh from having my first try for breakfast I can say not bad, not bad at all. However, to my taste this lacks aroma which I am used from my other black teas which fill the room when poured. It is a good black tea somewhat on the milder side as for aroma and flavor.

Very different from other black teas. Even if you drink mostly green and oolong teas, you should try this. Complex and more subtle thanmost black teas, it has an array of flavors that are hard to describe, with a light sweetness. My friends love it

Unique (in my experience) flavor & aroma. Exceptionally smooth, negligible tannins. A very straightforward tea -- not a lot of complexity, tastes the same throughout its cooling cycle. Likeable.

Excellent black tea, very sweet and smooth. A soothing flavor, if you can imagine such in a black tea. Not my first choice for a "wake-me-up" tea, but delightful all the same.

Smooth, rich, mellow, medium aroma, with negligible bitterness. I actually found it sweet with slight fruit/floral/vanilla/chocolate notes, very malty and full-bodied mouth feel. I agree with the previous customer about using a gong fu approach. I got around 6 good infusions using a small yixing teapot. Great taste and aroma and highly recommended! Excellent product!!!

This is not a tea for novices. It also doesnt actually taste like a dian hong, and comparing it with yunnan golds is wierd. It tastes mostly like a Xiang Luo or a Chun Mee hongcha. Tart, very rich, with *very* nice mouthfeel. This tea is probably best approached gongfu, if you can manage it with the small leaves. Western brews tend to be indestinct in flavor. Western brewing probably should have 1 or 2 mini-steeps of a minute or so before brewing a longer 3 steep. Im still trying to get an exciting cup (the dry and wet leaves smell so wonderful), and Ill eventually manage it, I think.
