Da Hong Pao is the king of the Famous Five Rock Teas in the Wu Yi Mountain of China. This tea is legendary. Records of its existence date as far back as the early 18th century (Dao Guang Era). During Qing Dynasty, Da Hong Pao was entitled "King of Tea". In 1998, the Chinese government put it up for sale for the first time and was sold to a group of auctioneers for almost $900,000.

"Te Ji" means special grade. This tea is certified organic by China Organic Food Certification Center (COFCC). It has also passed quality test from the Institute for Eco-market/IMO and Organic Tea Research and Development Center to ensure that its quality meets both China and International Standards. The tea has also been properly seasoned ("Tui Huo") for improved flavor and smoother taste.

Other names:

Special Grade Organic Big Red Robe

Taste:

Full bodied tea with sweet floral aroma. The first sip has a passing black coffee taste that is quickly replaced by a sweet, pleasant floral aftertaste that lingers in your mouth.

Appearance:

Dark and slightly curled tea leaves.

Origin:

Wu Yi Shan, Fujian Province, China

Harvest Period:

Spring 2015

How to identify the quality of Da Hong Pao?

Brewing Guide

1. Rinse tea cup and teapot with hot water.

2. Fill the teapot 1/2 to 3/4 full with tea leaves, or 3 grams of tea leaves for every 150ml of water if you are not using purple clay. Steep tea leaves in hot water at 95°c (207°F) to 100°c (212°F) for 1 minute for the first and second brewing.

3. Gradually increase steeping time and temperature for subsequent brewing.

* We suggest you can purple clay or porcelain tea ware.

Good tea.Nothing special in my taste but I can definetely recomend this one to everyone to try.

The taste is like a mature, young women. Theres a flowerish fruitish taste. It puts you in a good mood.

Tea leaves are similar to those displayed in the product picture and have an enjoyable coffee/walnut oil scent. Soup is amber/orange/brown with just enough particle density that I cant say it is "clear." Unlike some other reviewers (different batch, brewing method, or something?), the scent speaks to me more strongly of a rich walnut oil with crisp peppery top notes. The full body does hint, as described, of coffee. I detect more of a peppery than floral finish with very little astringency. As a fan of teas with similar body and spicy characteristics, I think this is the first Oolong that I may end up drinking on a regular basis (I sometimes enjoy the occasional, sweeter Tie Guan Yin).

For the price, this tea is amazing. I reminds me of the Imperial Da Hong Pao that Ive tried before. Of course, its not as good as an imperial Da Hong Pao, but its still a very good Da Hong Pao. I will definitely buy this again!

I really liked this one - it compares well to more exspensive versions. But, beware temprature and brewing time, the flavours demand some attension

I was really surprised how good this tea tasted.Very deep flavors for many infusions.Starts with fruity and changes into chocolate later.

Stands up to the Te Ji title for sure, with tasting notes of dried tart cherry, hint orange peel, and a wonderful sweetness and many other complex layers of flavor with a supreme mouth feel. This is a strong tea that will last an easy 7 to 9 rounds.

Excellent; absolute value for money. Tones of dark chocolate; remembrance of the forest after rain. My favourite!
