Rou Gui is the latest tea added to Wu Yi's famous five bushes (previously only four consisting of Tie Luo Han, Shui Jin Gui, Da Hong Pao and Bai Ji Guan; referred to as Si Da Ming Cong). All these teas originate from Mount Wuyi in Northern Fujian of China. They are also called Yan Cha (Rock tea) due to the pristine rocky areas where the tea bushes grow. In the early 80s, Rou Gui growing area is only a few Mu (6 acres = 1 Mu) but has increased to 30,000 Mu today, a testament to its quality and popularity.

Other names:

Cassia Oolong, Wu Yi Cassia Oolong, Bohea Cassia, Yu Gui, Jade Cassia Oolong

Taste:

A warm and sweet tea with cassia bark like aromatics which is so good that you will be captivated before you even drink the tea. The cups of tea from the first infusion have a cassia-like taste and fragrance while later infusions are floral sweet.

Appearance:

Traditional looking Oolong tea. Dark and slightly curled tea leaves.

Origin:

Wu Yi Shan, Fujian Province, China

Harvest Period:

Spring 2015

Brewing Guide

1. Rinse tea cup and teapot with hot water.

2. Fill the teapot 1/2 to 3/4 full with tea leaves, or 3 grams of tea leaves for every 150ml of water if you are not using purple clay. Steep tea leaves in hot water at 95°c (207°F) to 100°c (212°F) for 1 minute for the first and second brewing.

3. Gradually increase steeping time and temperature for subsequent brewing.

* We suggest you can purple clay or porcelain tea ware.

I love the aroma of this tea. After having it in the morning for about a week, I have a hard time starting the day with out it. I let it infuse for longer than most other teas as it only seems to improve the taste.

Good enough, I can taste Rou Gui, its so weak though, youll have some difficulty trying to identify what your drinking.

A good quality seasonal Rou Gui, nothing special. Its a little pricey but the quality is good. It will make a good tea to enjoy.

Very impressive tea. I have been a fan of Dan Cong tea for many years, this is an excellent quality tea.

I had apparently not done my homework properly on this one because I was surprised at the amounts of cinnamon notes in it. I'm not usually superfund of cinnamon. Still, I didnt find it an unpleasant amount of cinnamon, so Ill definitely drink it, but it was not what I was expecting, really.

Typical beefy, woody, smokey Wuyi style. I didnt find the cassia notes associated with this cultivar. Still, it is a good example of this style of oolong.

I think of this Rou Gui as a good everyday Wu Yi oolong. It has a well-rounded and robust quality if you use enough leaves. The cassia fragrance, which is similar to cinnamon, is faint and subtle. I find this Rou Gui exhibits many of the classic oolong qualities one expects in a Wu Yi, such as earthiness, mineral taste and aromatics. A good Rou Gui.

well this tea is like leather in taste-but I say but and if youll add charcoal filtered water to it giving more tea-it actually tastes most delightful-it has such a nice name Yunnan Gold it would be pits to discard this tea-so just add water til it does taste the very best-you will agree with this technique that it does make it an exquisite tea ! as I do.
