Bai Hao Oolong is named for the unique appearance of its tea leaves, which are mostly dark in color but ends with a silvery tip. It is also known as "Dong Fang Mei Ren" or Oriental Beauty, a name given by Queen Elizabeth II in the early 20th century when she tasted this tea for the first time. Bai Hao Oolong is one of the most precious tea to come from Taiwan. Truly a "beauty" not to be missed.

Other names:

White Pekoe Oolong, Dong Fang Mei Ren, Oriental Beauty

Taste:

Yield a rich and strong honeyed note liquor which is a reminiscence of Keemun tea.

Appearance:

Bai Hao Oolong tea leaves are very special. The body of the tea leaves are dark in color but ends in a silvery tip, similar to Yin Zhen (White) tea.

Origin:

Taiwan

Harvest Period:

2015

Brewing Guide

1. Rinse tea cup and teapot with hot water.

2. Fill the teapot 1/2 to 3/4 full with tea leaves, or 3 grams of tea leaves for every 150ml of water if you are not using purple clay. Steep tea leaves in hot water at 95°c (207°F) to 100°c (212°F) for 1 minute for the first and second brewing.

3. Gradually increase steeping time and temperature for subsequent brewing.

* We suggest you can purple clay or porcelain tea ware.

Never tried oolong before. The taste resembles black tea but much softer. Very relaxing, so not suitable for a morning drink.

A truly unique tea, at least to this novice taster. Pre-steeped, the leaves have a sweet, molasses-like smell. Very pleasant. Once brewed the odor is closer to a light Darjeeling, or maybe an English Evening tea blend. The flavor is similar to these also, only a bit sweeter and more mild, with more depth, with less astringency. Highly enjoyable!

A very classic tasting and looking Oriental Beauty (Bai Hao Oolong.) Most of the leaves are white and long, this has a great sweetness, and a wonderful lingering aftertaste. Would recommend shorter brew for a more sweeter refreshing taste.

Very good Bai Hao. The condition of the leaves is very consistent. Meets my standards of four infusions.

A good tea right after meals. The taste is easy to like, sweet and not to complex.

Not bad tea for the price. But still my favorite Oolong is Tie Guan Yin.

Very smooth flavour, with a hint of ripe peach blossoms. Many infusions are possible.

Very pleasant taste with a nice aroma. A mildly strong tea, reminiscent more of black teas. Leaves are beautiful.

It tastes like black tea with sugar. It's O.K if you like that style.

I should have been expecting the taste of the tea based on the other descriptions, but I was nonetheless somewhat disappointed. There is a nice cocoa-honey-malt thing going on, but with none of the floral qualities that Id come to expect from a good oolong. The leaves are completely oxidized and it seems more like a black tea than an oolong. If this is your thing, then youll probably enjoy the tea more than I did.
